About you:

Do you love the written word and know how to get right to the heart of an idea? Do you enjoy collaborating with people to help them say what they want to say even better? Are you someone who’s great with detail and has an in-depth understanding of grammar and style? If so, you may be a great fit for Greenleaf’s Associate Editor position.

We’re looking for an editor who can manage multiple book projects simultaneously, serving as the lead editor on designated projects. In this role, you’ll perform service edits, such as copyedits and proofreads, collaborate with authors and other publishing team members, and carry out additional editorial-related tasks as needed. You may also take on a limited number of manuscript-development projects, guiding authors to create a first draft of their manuscript.

What you’ll do:

· Perform lead editor duties for clients
· Handle all assigned copyediting and proofreading service edits
· Perform a limited number of manuscript development service edits
· Independently manage priorities and meet assigned due dates on schedule
· Communicate clearly and regularly with publishing team members, including editors, designers, project managers, freelancers, and marketing and distribution professionals
· Create written collateral, including book summaries, cover/web/catalog copy, reading group guides, author Q&As, blog posts, and other ancillary editorial products
· Perform production-related tasks as needed or assigned, including styling manuscripts for layout, leading titling research and brainstorming sessions, completing correction checks on poured pages, flagging items for permissions and releases, curating images, and proofreading endorsements
· Carry out other editorial tasks, as needed or assigned

What you’ll bring:

· At least two years of editing experience in publishing, advertising, or related environment
· Bachelor’s degree in English or related field
· Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills
· Exceptional oral and written communication skills
· Excellent attention to detail
· Efficient multitasking and prioritization skills
· Ability to anticipate needs and take the initiative
· Desire to be a collaborative team player
· Excellent customer service skills
· Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat
· Experience with the Chicago Manual of Style
· Passion for books, reading, and/or publishing
· Positive attitude and a great sense of humor
