Coping with a Bad Boss Tips:
1. Try to understand your boss's perspective so that you see the issue from the other person's point of view and understand the pressure on your boss.
2. Check with your peers to see if they have the same issues with your boss, or is it just you and what learnings are there from that for you.
3. If you give your boss an opportunity to express what they are pleased and displeased about, that can really clear the air.
4. If your boss is acting inappropriately, you may need to complain to someone else or to higher management. So as to not be naïve about this, you need to know if the system handles such complaints fairly and that that you will not be victimized as a consequence of complaining. You need to know you can trust the system.
5. Sometimes a situation is so bad that you need to find another team so you can again be yourself. You might need to move away from your current boss. That might mean transferring in your organization or looking to leave, which can be difficult in the current market.
Be a Good Boss Tips:
1. Bosses need to have an interest in leading and to be responsible for people.
2. We want our boss to be technically competent in their field.
3. We want a boss who cares about people -and not just themselves.
4. Bosses either add energy or sap energy. Be the sort of boss who grows people and cause people to be confident in their ability - and people will do amazing things.
5. Your team members are going to talk about you! What do you want them to say about you to their friends and family? List the five words you would like them to say, and then live those five words!
