Are you a media strategist, publicist, or content marketing whiz with a knack for spotting and/or developing compelling content and pitch angles? Do you have an existing contact network of podcast hosts or an address book full of journalists for online publications?
We are looking for a motivated, creative, and well-connected media strategist with a passion for big ideas and the drive to create and execute compelling digital media campaigns on behalf of our authors. The media strategist should have experience planning and executing content-focused earned media outreach, know their way around social media, and be comfortable interacting with leaders from all industries. This person will work alongside an in-house brand and marketing strategists and report directly to the marketing director.
We are an independent book publisher specializing in business, leadership, finance, and management books (in addition to other nonfiction categories) with over 35 New York Times and Wall Street Journal best sellers. We help big thinkers share their ideas with the world. We are dedicated to supporting our authors and helping them grow by engaging in a variety of branding, marketing, and audience building activities.
Responsibilities include:
- Plan and execute custom earned media outreach campaigns with a focus on content development and promotion
- Serve as the point media contact and strategist for multiple campaigns simultaneously
- Comfortability pitching media across all genres and in digital spaces including podcasts, influencers, bloggers, etc.
- Secure podcast appearances, article placements, and interviews with relevant digital media outlets
- Conduct research to identify key influencers, podcasts, and media contacts for campaign outreach
- Create persuasive press materials, including press kits, press releases, pitch letters, author Q&A’s, and article ideas
- Create media contact lists and nurture relationships with key digital media and industry influencers to secure coverage
- Assist in the development of processes, best-practices, and timelines for media outreach
- Brief authors on media engagements and assist in preparation
- Monitor for and document media coverage
- Advise authors on maximizing coverage by creating organic social media content to promote to their network
- Coordinate with editorial, marketing, design, and distribution teams on campaign execution and resulting coverage
- Create reports at the conclusion of each campaign
- Have a working knowledge of Greenleaf Book Group authors for media pitching opportunities on a recurring basis
- Manage monthly publishing trade review submissions across title list
- Contribute to internal Greenleaf Book Group marketing efforts including contributing articles to the learning center and attending networking/speaking events
The ideal candidate will have:
- 3-5 years of experience in publicity, public relations, digital media, or related field
- Solid track record of generating creative angles and pitches with a strong working knowledge of the media landscape
- Deep understanding of the digital media space including podcasters, bloggers, and social media
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to track and report on media coverage
- Ability to manage day-to-day communication with key partners, including external publicists and marketing teams, and articulate strategy in a manner that is clear, concise, and supportive
- Excellent interpersonal relations and communication
- Comfortable being a partner and an advisor to our authors
- Quickly understand the needs and goals of our authors
- Be able to demonstrate creative problem solving on behalf of authors
- Superior attention to detail and scheduling/project management skills
- Administrative and organizational skills to be able to quickly shift between projects and clients and meet strict deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication with knowledge of AP Style
- Computer proficiency including familiarity with Mac and MS Office
- Have familiarity with PR tools such as Agility PR and Respona
