About you:
Do you love the written word and have a passion for books? Are you someone who’s great with detail and has a solid understanding of grammar? Are you interested in learning the ins and outs of trade book production? If so, you may be a great fit for Greenleaf’s part-time Editorial Intern position.
We’re looking for an intern with excellent proofreading and writing skills who can perform a variety of editorial-related tasks in support of Greenleaf’s editorial team. Under guidance from lead editors, the intern will work on multiple projects simultaneously and collaborate with other publishing team members.
What you’ll do:
- Style manuscripts
- Proofread covers
- Perform checks on pages with corrections
- Independently manage priorities and meet assigned due dates on schedule
- Communicate clearly and professionally with internal team members, including editors, designers, project managers, and marketing specialists, about task status and editorial issues
- Perform production-related tasks as needed or assigned, including researching, identifying competitive titles, formatting endnotes, creating art logs, curating images, putting together sample copy for designers, attending titling meetings, pulling content from books for social media or online use, and proofreading text
- Under the direction of a lead editor, may create written collateral, including book summaries, reading group guides, author Q&As, blog posts, and other ancillary editorial products
- Maintain Greenleaf Book Group’s reputation for excellent service to its clients and uphold the company’s CORE values (RISE: Respect, Integrity, Stewardship, Empowerment)
What you’ll bring:
- Major in English, Journalism, or other related field
- At least one year of experience in publishing, advertising, or related environment preferred; writing and/or editing samples will be requested
- Excellent proofreading skills
- Great oral and written communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Efficient multitasking and prioritization skills
- Ability to anticipate needs and take the initiative
- Desire to be a collaborative team player
- Experience with Microsoft Word
- Interest in book publishing and printing
- Positive attitude and a great sense of humor
