Position: Project Editor

Job Purpose

The Project Editor performs a variety of editorial-related tasks and collaborates with authors and other publishing team members. This position focuses on an editorial management role for multiple projects, shepherding books from initial manuscript drafts to publication.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain Greenleaf Book Group’s reputation for excellent service to its clients and uphold the company’s CORE values (RISE: Respect, Integrity, Stewardship, Empowerment)
  • Perform project editor/editorial management duties on various, concurrent projects
  • Independently manage priorities and meet the assigned due dates on schedule
  • Communicate clearly and regularly with publishing team members, including editors, designers, project managers, freelancers, and marketing and distribution professionals
  • Maintain excellent and personable communication with authors
  • Perform production-related tasks as needed or assigned, including styling manuscripts for layout, leading titling research and brainstorming sessions, completing correction checks on poured pages, curating images, flagging items in manuscripts for permissions and releases, and proofreading endorsements
  • Create written collateral, including book summaries, cover/web/catalog copy, reading group guides, author Q&As, blog posts, and other ancillary editorial products
  • Request and obtain permissions for copyrighted material on behalf of authors
  • Carry out other editorial tasks, as needed or assigned

Qualifications

  • Superb copyediting and proofreading skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Outstanding multitasking and prioritization skills
  • Enthusiastic self-motivator
  • Highly experienced in using Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experienced with the Chicago Manual of Style
  • Collaborative team player
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong interest in book publishing
  • Positive attitude and a sense of humor

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in English or related field preferred
  • Client interaction/communicating with clients
  • 1-2 years of editing experience in publishing, advertising, or related environment
  • Professional writing experience
  • Organization/attention to detail/prioritizing/multitasking
  • Pass the Greenleaf Editorial proofreading test
